Understanding Difference Between Federation & Society
What does a Breed Federation do?
- They are the main category in which individual breeds fall in to.
- They can host shows/events for the overall breeds that fall in to their category.
- They keep a large database of every breed that falls in to their category.
- They Also hold the basic breed standard for their breeds to follow.
- They can announce horse of the year or month.
- They may hold basic restrictions in what the breeds have and don't.
- They can also give and deduct points to horses that fall in their category.
What does a Breed Society do?
- They can host along side the federation their own database.
- They can create a more accurate breed standard.
- They can host shows for their own breed.
- They can add points, lifetime titles and awards.
- They can register members and their horses that fit into that breed society.
- They can hold records and databases which may include show records, stud books, progenies, etc...
- They can announce horse of the year or month on their own society, not announce it as an overall horse of year or month like federations.
- They may only host one breed society show a month that includes points (this is so that breed doesn't advance on genus-equus quicker than others)
- However they can host unlimited schooling shows that do not give points but instead cash prizes.
One most valuable thing in breed societies and shows, IF you enter a show hosted by an federation and your breed is not registered with its own breed society this does not matter. You can enter any federation show that your breed falls in to without being registered to a society, but you must be registered with the federation. Members found in breed societies claiming that you must register with them to enter an federation show are breaking this rule. However, you must register (if the society says so) with your breed society if the breed society hosts a show.
